Costa Rica set to ban hunting, a first in the Americas
Costa Rica is set to be the first country in the American continent to ban recreational hunting after the country’s legislature approved the popular measure by a wide margin.
The bill, which bans hunting for sport but still allows culling and subsistence hunting, was approved late Tuesday by a 41-5 vote. Congress will revisit the issue on Thursday, but the second round is seen as just a formality.
President Laura Chinchilla, who supports the measure, is expected to sign it into law in the next days.
The ban, which does not affect fishing for sport, does allow researchers to hunt for scientific purposes.

I’m just soo angry. I just don’t understand people or their motives..
Some piece of shit shot and killed a mother bear (illegally) up in Hixon, B.C a few days ago. The asshole left the CARCASS (also illegal) behind, and three baby bears were heard ‘calling’ out for her and were seen near her body, mourning.
Someone saw the carcass and cubs and reported it to local officials.
Thankfully, the cubs have been rescued and will be rehabilitated in a non profit, wildlife ‘sanctuary’ called The Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter. Hopefully, they will all be okay.
I’m so thankful there are people out there who give a fuck about animals and nature, especially wild animals. These three beautiful cubs would have simply STARVED to death if not for the shelter rescuing them. It’s unbelievable to me how any person could have done something so barbaric.
WHAT a senseless tragedy. A mother killed, and left for her babies to grieve over. What kind of sick fuck does that?
I hope they find out who.
The shelter is run PURELY off of donations. At this time, they are worried about one of the cubs, as it seems to be more lethargic than the other two. A full examination of the cubs will be done tomorrow. Hopefully, all will be well!

today is the start of Grizzly hunting season here. its disgusting, and sad, and there is NO need for it, at all.
I watched the news tonight, and the creator of this petition is such a wonderful person. He is a photographer, and photographs grizzly bears all along the coast. The pictures they showed were amazing. He captured such beautiful moments in the bears lives. One photo was of a Grizzly sleeping, peacefully, on some ferns (it looked like). I almost started crying, it was breath taking, and the man who photographs them just cant believe the trophy hunt is STILL allowed. He was so sincere, and instead of taking a huge stack of signed petition papers to the Government, he has created a book. A book with all the names of people who want to hunt STOPPED and want to see these bears protected. It also includes the photographs he has taken, over the years, of Grizzlys in their natural habitat. It was amazing, and he is still finishing it up, out of his own time and money. He is presenting it this way so it is not only visually impacting, but emotionally as well.
His love for the bears and reverence for them was really inspiring.
